In close collaboration with our client, NX DESIGN transformed a section of the existing Avalon Beach residence garage into a sophisticated wine cellar and lounge. Upon entering from the garage, the journey begins with a stunning stacked travertine stone wall, complemented by contrasting dark wood joinery and elegant brass fittings. A glass door offers a glimpse into the inviting lounge area and the client’s impressive glass display, hinting at the refined experience within.
The fully insulated wine cellar is designed for optimal wine storage, featuring an integrated cooling system and a timber-framed Viridian Toughened glass door. Bespoke joinery crafted from NAVURBAN Laminate—a sustainable and resilient alternative—adds to the refined aesthetic. Rich interior finishes, including polished concrete floor topping, travertine wall cladding, and a Venetian plaster-look ceiling, lend the space a warm and textured atmosphere. Anchoring the room is a central island storage bench that doubles as a tasting table, offering both practical functionality and a striking focal point—perfect for curated tastings or quiet appreciation.
Adjoining the cellar, the lounge area is designed to complement the overall aesthetic. Custom joinery and cabinetry provide dedicated storage and display for glassware, with timber-framed glass doors and open shelving. All shelving is subtly backlit with recessed LED lighting both above and below. A fully integrated kitchenette adds practicality, featuring a MAMO Calcutta benchtop and splashback that bring contrast and warmth to the dark timber finishes. Brushed brass fittings throughout enhance the sense of elegance.
To accommodate the new layout, the existing bulkhead was extended to support airflow from the integrated AC unit. Ambient LED lighting is seamlessly integrated within the bulkhead, while indirect wall lights and strategically placed lamps enhance the overall ambiance. Spotlights illuminate the client’s extensive collection of artworks, highlighting architectural details and enriching the experience of the space.
The client can relax, entertain guests, and enjoy wine tasting in the wine lounge, which thoughtfully combines the clients own artwork and furniture with a selection of new, tasteful pieces. Subtle ambient lighting enhances the space, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
The existing adjoining bathroom was enhanced by extending the floor topping over the existing tiles, to blend seamlessly with the lounge area.
The overall client experience is now one of refined luxury and immersive comfort. The seamless integration of architectural detailing, high-end materials, and ambient lighting creates a sophisticated yet welcoming retreat within the home. By reimagining a once-utilitarian garage space, NX DESIGN has crafted a sanctuary that caters to both functionality and indulgence— where curated wine collections, art, and design converge in perfect harmony. This bespoke transformation not only elevates the property’s value but also enhances the client’s daily living with a private haven for relaxation, entertainment, and appreciation of the finer things in life.
