Who is IFA?

The Interior Fitout Association (IFA) is the leading national voice for the fitout industry and related trades, suppliers and services.

With almost 600 members Australia-wide, the Interior Fitout Association membership proudly includes many highly specialised disciplines including shop and office fitters, manufacturers, suppliers, service providers and subcontractors.

IFA is committed to its members and encourages them to achieve the highest standards of workmanship and customer service, supporting them by advocating for professional recognition of the whole industry. This commitment to members includes providing industry information and opportunities, education and training support and importantly, celebrating and promoting the achievements of members.

The Association is structured in a way that has the future of its members very much in mind. Members are represented via five state divisions – NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and WA, each with elected representatives to the National Council. Each state division works to identify and address state-specific issues, with the help and guidance of the Board of Directors, National Council and the Head Office of IFA.

IFA members are encouraged to invite suitable colleagues to join, uphold the values of the IFA and work towards increasing the professional reputation of the industry as a whole.

About the industry

Considered a ‘niche’ industry, many members have specialist skills that are highly sought after.

IFA members include professionals, tradespeople, suppliers, developers and regulators. Our members design, buy, sell, build, check and install purpose-built internal environments for thousands of businesses in the retail, franchise, corporate and office sectors.

The industry’s profile is a broad range of trades and skills, from the early stages of design and materials sourcing, through to construction and installation of builds, as well as those who are experts in finishes, furnishings, signage, fittings, materials and shop layouts.

Shop and office fitters and designers work to create spaces that are appealing and inviting, more efficient, time and space-saving and more beautiful.

Developers, shopping centre management and owners of large retail zones such as airports provide a large percentage of work for Association members.

The relationships in the industry

As the voice of our industry, IFA is committed to fostering strong business connections with major stakeholders. IFA is in regular contact with developers, owners and managers of major shopping centres around Australia, and works to bring members new opportunities through its strong networks. News and information about tenders from industry stakeholders is shared with IFA members on a regular basis.

IFA also acts as a conduit between our industry and retailers and designers, to provide quality trades and services that create beautiful and inspiring retail spaces.

To support this, IFA has created its unique Supplier Directory and Showcases. These tools bring leading industry suppliers together in one place. Through showcases, prospective clients can see examples of the quality workmanship members offer through the images, project overviews and links through to member websites.

IFA can also help retailers distribute their tenders throughout the industry and can work with them to secure the best contractor for individual projects.
